With less than three weeks until the degree show, I decided to start another painting so that I could have more options when it comes to edit down my work to the best paintings to hang in the exhibition. As the four paintings that I already have are named after the four months in between Winter and Spring, the new painting is going to sit somewhere in the middle as a February II or March II. I will decide whether it evokes February or March conditions nearer to the end of its completion. At the moment, I have only painted the first layer so I am open for it to develop and change as I continue to build up the layers. For this composition, I compiled all the sketches I have of Nant-y-Moch and began by sketching out a large hillside on the left side of the board and then felt there should be a body of water on ground level and I took it from there. I am going to use yellow/brown tones with hints of green as these are colours I have observed at Nant-y-Moch in both February and March. Below is a photograph of the painting with its first layer.
